How the pairing system works
- Creation runs region, then faction, then world, and a single world hosts only one faction.
- Every Elyos world is paired with an Asmodian world. That pairing is who you will meet in the Abyss and other shared PvP spaces.
- Pairings are not permanent. The publisher rebalances them over time to keep the factions from drifting apart, so the opposition you learn to expect on a given pairing is a current arrangement rather than a fixed fact.
- Instanced content, including dungeons, is cross-server, so a world decides your open world and your Abyss neighbours rather than whether you can group for PvE.
- Steam and PURPLE players share the same worlds, so the launcher does not split the population.
Transfer window: what the rules actually say
Transfers were announced for mid October 2026. The English announcement dates the window from October 14, while the French, German, Spanish and Portuguese versions say no later than October 13, and no closing date was published. The initial window is free. The English version is also the one that states transfers are limited to worlds inside the same faction.
How to pick a world without regret
- Agree on a region first. Cross-region play is not an option, and latency punishes the wrong choice more than population does.
- Agree on a faction second, because the faction decides most of what you will actually see.
- Confirm whether you are all on early access worlds or all waiting for launch day. This is the split that breaks groups.
- Check creation limits before you commit. Popular worlds cap character creation and the documented fix is to choose another world rather than retry.
- Only then worry about which specific pair is healthiest. Names are cosmetic compared with region, faction and access type.

How many AION 2 servers are there at launch?
Nineteen early access pairs were listed across Europe, NA East, NA West, Latin America and Asia. Worlds specifically opened for the October 5 launch were not published at the time of writing.
Can Elyos and Asmodian players be on the same server?
No. Each world hosts a single faction, and each one is paired with an opposite-faction world for shared PvP content.
Is the AION 2 transfer free?
The initial mid October window is described as free, and no closing date was announced. The same announcement restricts early access characters to early access worlds.
