The zones you actually level through
| Zone | Who levels there | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Verteron | Elyos | The Elyos starting territory. It carries 102 of the documented hidden cubes and the Elyos Empyrean Trace spawn. |
| Altgard | Asmodian | The Asmodian starting territory. It carries the other 69 documented cubes and the Asmodian trace spawn. |
| Reshanta | Both factions, contested | The Abyss. Open PvP territory with fortress objectives, and the place the Spacetime Rift sends you. |
How the in-game map works
- Open the world map from the interface and look for travel nodes before you walk anywhere. Teleporting between known points is dramatically faster than overland travel.
- Automatic pathfinding in the global client has been widely reported as unreliable, so treat the map as the navigation tool and the auto-path as a suggestion.
- Map markers carry collectible and event information, including the rift marker that appears when a Spacetime Rift opens.
- The map doubles as a progress viewer for the cube sweep, which is why a filtered collectible view is worth learning early.
Reading the map like a local
- Set your next objective first, then look for the nearest travel node to it rather than the nearest node to you.
- Mark anything you cannot reach yet. Many traces sit in places that need flight or gliding, and a marked spot is a plan rather than a mystery.
- Plan a loop instead of a line. Collecting on the way to a quest hub costs nothing extra while travelling back for a single item costs a trip.
- Use the map to check which faction territory you are standing in before you pick a fight. Dying in the wrong zone is the most avoidable death in the game.
- Check the map for the rift marker before you commit a group, because the marker is the only reliable confirmation that the portal is actually open.
Where the collectibles sit
The two starting territories hold almost all of the documented collectibles: 102 hidden cubes in Verteron and 69 in Altgard, with a single documented cube in Reshanta from a pre-launch dataset. Empyrean Traces follow the same pattern, spread across faction territory with a meaningful number placed somewhere that requires flight, gliding or clearing a mob pack. The practical consequence is that the map you should learn first is the map of your own starting territory, because that is where a leveling character does the most collecting with the least travel.
Community map tools
Several community projects publish interactive maps with filters for collectibles, dungeons and rift entrances. They are third-party tools rather than official ones, and they are genuinely useful for a cube sweep because they solve the problem the in-game map handles least well: seeing every cube in a zone at once and ticking them off. Use them alongside the client rather than instead of it, since marker data can lag behind a patch.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How many zones does AION 2 have at launch?
The leveling world is built around the two faction territories, Verteron for Elyos and Altgard for Asmodians, plus the contested Abyss region Reshanta.
Does AION 2 have an interactive map?
Community projects publish interactive maps with collectible and dungeon filters. The in-game map handles travel nodes, collectible markers and rift markers.
Why does automatic pathing feel unreliable?
It is a widely reported weakness of the global client. Opening the map and using travel nodes is the faster habit, especially for long legs.
