AION 2 Field Guide

Enchant is one of five gear growth systems

AION 2 splits gear growth across five systems: Exceed, Surpass, Soul Add, Succession and Enchant. Enchant is the classic enhancement ladder, and it is described as the most expensive of the five and the one that depends most on the pity mechanic. The numbers on this page cover Enchant only, because the other four use different currencies and rules and mixing them together is how enhancement guides end up misleading.

The first ten levels are deterministic and cheap

Every step from plus zero to plus ten has a 100 percent success rate. There is no rng, no failure and therefore no pity mechanic in that range. What does scale is the material cost, which rises linearly from 510 materials for the first step to 8,070 for the tenth.

After plus ten the pity ramp begins

The first rng step is plus ten to plus eleven at a 65 percent base rate, and every failure raises the next attempt by a flat five percentage points. Base rates then fall step by step to 20 percent at the top. The important detail is that the material cost per step rises at the same time as the success rate falls, so the two effects multiply.

AION 2 Gear Progression Guide: How Upgrading Actually Works

  • A failed attempt never destroys the item. You lose stones and Kinah, not the piece.
  • Upgrade stones can be pulled back out of gear, which is exactly why pushing everything to level 10 is routine rather than risky.
  • Mana stones and Theo stones are separate systems layered on top of the enhancement ladder, not part of the same roll.

Cumulative cost and where the curve turns

Adding the steps together gives the number that actually matters. Reaching plus ten costs about 36,680 materials and consumes roughly a fifth of the total budget. The remaining five steps consume about four fifths of it, and the average run from zero to plus fifteen involves around 22.2 attempts overall.

Why plus ten is the rational stopping point

  • Everything up to and including plus ten is guaranteed, so a stop at plus ten carries zero risk of wasted materials.
  • It costs roughly a fifth of the maximal spend for a piece that is fully enhanced in the deterministic range.
  • The last two steps alone cost about 91,000 materials, which is close to the entire zero to plus twelve spend.
  • Above plus thirteen the return per material falls sharply: a 20 to 25 percent base rate means three or more attempts per step on average.
  • The practical rule is therefore to take every piece you intend to keep to plus ten, and to treat anything above that as a deliberate endgame investment rather than a routine upgrade.

The sibling systems and their own currencies

Enchant is only one of five gear growth paths, and the others do not use the same rules. Exceed, Surpass, Soul Add and Succession each have their own materials and their own behaviour, which is why a failure before plus ten is a sign that you are looking at the wrong system rather than at bad luck. Succession, for example, is reported to charge escalating currency per attempt on upper inheritance, with figures in the tens of millions of Kinah reported for the third attempt and beyond, rather than a success rate at all.

Practical enhancement rules

  1. Stop at plus ten on anything that is not a final piece. It is the only point on the curve that is both cheap and certain.
  2. Move materials to the tier you intend to keep. Spending on the item level 54 set is a waste once item level 86 is available.
  3. Check the progression tier before you start. Gear in the same tier shares one enhancement ladder, so similarly named items cost the same and a cheaper-looking alternative is not actually cheaper.
  4. Do not enhance a bridge piece. Early gear exists to get you into the next dungeon, not to be improved.
  5. Budget at the pity rate, not the advertised rate. The average attempt count per step is the number to plan against, and the variance on a 20 percent step is large.

  • Disassembling gear you have outgrown is one of the primary Enhance Stone sources, and it is available from the leveling phase onward.
  • The daily dungeon is short, solo and pays stones at the end, which makes it the cheapest routine supply in the game.
  • Disassembling spare wings returns a large batch of stones, a source most players never think to use.

Where Enhance Stones actually come from

  • Disassembly. Breaking down gear you have outgrown is a primary supply and it is available from the leveling phase, which is why nothing should be vendored without a second look.
  • Spare wings. Disassembling duplicates and replaced wings returns a large batch of stones, and almost nobody uses this route.
  • The daily dungeon, which is short, solo and pays stones at the end. It is the cheapest routine supply in the game.
  • Conquest cube openings in the cheap Exploration tiers, where a cube costs 20 to 30 Odyle Energy rather than 40.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum enhancement level in AION 2?

Enchant runs to plus fifteen. The first ten steps are guaranteed at 100 percent, and the last five use a base rate that falls from 65 percent to 20 percent with a pity ramp of plus five percentage points per failure.

Can enhancement fail before plus ten?

No. Every step from plus zero to plus ten is 100 percent. A failure in that range means you are using a different growth system, most likely Succession, which does not use a success rate.

Where should I stop enhancing in AION 2?

Plus ten is the usual stopping point. It is guaranteed, and the remaining five steps consume about eighty percent of the total material budget.

Do similar items cost the same to enhance?

Yes. Gear in the same progression tier shares one enhancement ladder, so items with similar names have identical costs.
