AION 2 Field Guide

How long leveling actually takes

The level cap at global launch is 50. Experienced players following an optimised route report 10 to 14 hours to reach it in the current seasonal content, and that number assumes the campaign is already known and that you are not stopping to explore. A first character that reads quest text and chases every collectible will take two or three times as long, which is a normal way to play and not a mistake.

How the global curve differs from the Korean release

The global release runs a modified Season 1 progression curve rather than the Korean original. Levels and regions unlock faster, endgame level is described as reachable in five to ten hours of focused play, and global players reach the endgame story earlier than Korean players did. The story content itself is the same volume; what changed is the pace. That is the practical reason the ten to fourteen hour figure above is realistic for a prepared run rather than optimistic.

Chapters behave like level bands

The campaign is structured as chapters, and each chapter behaves like a level band: a story arc covering one themed region, with a main quest chain plus a set of side quests, running roughly two to four hours. Finishing a chapter main chain unlocks the next chapter, usually unlocks a new gameplay feature at the same time, and typically pushes you into the next level band. Because the gating is strictly linear, a stalled chapter is never something to route around.

The route in level bands

LevelsWhat to doWhy
1 to 15Follow the opening campaign without detoursIt awards travel points, starter gear and the first system tutorials in a fixed order.
15 to 25Campaign plus the first dungeon once it unlocksDungeon experience outpaces questing in this band, and gear from the run carries you forward.
25 to 35Chain quest hubs and start gathering in transitGathering nodes sit on the path, so Essence Extraction levels while you travel.
35 to 45Dungeons in a group, quests when soloGroup content pulls ahead on experience per minute once your class has its core skills.
45 to 50Campaign finale plus repeatable contentThe final stretch is gated by story progress rather than by raw experience.

Questing, grinding or dungeons

  • Quest first while the campaign still hands out travel upgrades. Skipping it to grind saves experience and costs mobility.
  • Dungeon when you have a group. Repeated dungeon runs are the fastest experience per hour in most bands, and they also supply the gear that stops you falling behind.
  • Grind only to close a gap. Open-world grinding is the weakest of the three here because kill experience alone does not compete with quest chains.
  • Do not skip feathers. Empyrean Traces convert into skill points, and a leveling character with more skill points kills faster for the rest of the climb.

Ten things that make a leveling session faster

  1. Finish a whole quest chain before moving to the next hub instead of hopping between regions.
  2. Use the map teleport whenever a node exists; automatic pathing is unreliable in the global client.
  3. Keep a stack of movement consumables for long overland legs.
  4. Repair before you enter a dungeon, not after the first wipe.
  5. Bank collectible turn-ins at the Monolith in batches rather than walking back for one feather.
  6. Level with a partner in the 35 to 50 band, where group content pulls ahead.
  7. Set your gathering filter to whatever is under-levelled so profession progress keeps pace.
  8. Stop at each new flight unlock and use it to reach nearby collectibles.
  9. Log out near your next objective so the next session starts on the path rather than in town.
  10. Read the season window: Season 1 ends on December 16, 2026, so reward deadlines are real.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest way to level in AION 2?

Follow the campaign for travel unlocks, then chain dungeons with a group for the middle bands. Open-world grinding is the slowest method on its own.

Does the level cap go above 50 at launch?

The global client launches with a level cap of 50. Regional clients received a cap increase alongside additional classes earlier in the year.
